  • Yes, but only if all your music is already uploaded to the MeCanto servers. In general it is recommended to leave the PC Client running at all times so it can sync new files with your online account whenever you update your music collection.

i have had the mac client running for a 3-4 days. 4964 tracks to go at this writing. and mecanto has only recognised 5495 of the 5762 tracks on the computer. at this rate, it will be a month or so before everything is uploaded. do i really have to keep the computer on 24/7 for month? why can't you just check the metadata on the tracks and only upload tracks not in your database?

    Hey,
For all that I know, they are doing what you just said!
And the uploading speed gets higher the more files they have in their system.
There's just not enough files in the system yet, that's why the uploading speed is slow at the moment, but- more files you upload, the better and faster MeCanto gets.
    I'm not a 100% sure about that, but that's what I know.

If you are frustrated by the slow upload, I can suggest you two things that I use:

1st, you can split the uploads to a few different times, by "saying" to MeCanto to upload just one (or two, or three, dipends on you) of files. And after it's done, you can turn off the computer, and restart the process with new folders and files!

2nd, have you heard about MeCanto's videos option? You can watch and hear vidoes from YouTube with no uploading time. You just go on the Videos option, click on "Add video" button in the tool bar, and search the name of the song you want to hear. That might take you a while to search, find and add all of your songs to MeCanto, but if you're in a hurry, wants to listen to songs without uploading time, without worrying about turning off the computer, or just lazy, you can do that.

I'm not a MeCanto employee, but I hope I helped in some way and that the info I gave was correct :)

    Hi

    Thanks for the response.

Alas, with over 4850 tracks to go (that's just over 100 tracks in 3 days), manually searching then adding via Youtube would be a full time job for a couple of months. Additionally, albums comprise most of the upload. The thought of having to search for each constituent track of an album then arrange a playlist of the album in the same sequence as the artist intended....this makes the proposition unworkable.

At the rate thing are going, it will take almost 2 months to upload.

This does seem a bit odd and it is not clear what the benefit is over other services.

    Hi,

May I ask how do we know that the upload is prevented for files already in the system ? Where is that explained ?

    Kind regards.

    Julien

  • There's no guarantee that uploads will be prevented for files already in the system. In MeCanto we store your own music collection and employ different optimizations to get your collection up as quickly as possible (without infringing on any ones right).
