Download tracks from my account
Once my music is uploaded to the Mecanto Server, can I then download a song from there? ex. I am on vacation and want to download a song to my laptop hard drive. I guess in essence I would like to know if Mecanto can also be used as a backup, in case music is ever lost.

I’m
unsure
This is a very good idea, it's in our TODO list. Although there might be legal issues that will prevent us from enabling it. -

i added all of my music in mecanto. then i had to wipe my computer and reconfigure the harddrive. so, now that all of my music is in mecanto, how can i add it back to my library on mediaplayer so it is on my computer??? I am trying to add music to an MP3 player, but can't do that from mecanto so it needs it to be in my music library.

My purpose for using Mecanto is to get my music OFF of my PC, but there will be times where I need the files again...like say, to put them on my Ipod. If I can't get the files back there's no real point in my using this service.

Same idea. In this way you can use mecanto also as a backup location for your songs

I'm waiting for this feature to be available. Overall MeCanto is a great service (cloud storage/computing). Hope this feature to be available soon.

Mecanto is not cloud computing, Strider. Cloud computing is a service like Amazon's EC2 that actually lets you use the processing power of a cloud however you wish. Mecanto isn't even cloud storage really, since you can't put whatever you like on it and you can't download things after you've put them on there. It's just an online media streaming service, and not a very good one at that.

Hi Viki
To be honest I kind of lost interest and forgot about it but I will see if I can dig out the log file later.
Thanks

1Hi,
Whether or not we're a cloud computing service is a matter of definition. Tom is right that the term cloud computing is generally used for a utilizing the processing power of multiple computers in the cloud.
In any case we see ourselves as a system which lets you store and mange you music in the cloud, like gmail lets you store and manage your emails, for example.
Now down to business. The ability to download tracks from your account is a very good feature. The main reason it's not available yet is related to legal concerns relating to music file sharing. We want to implement this and might do so in the future. -

Hi,
Sadly, but no news for this issue. -

Just found out I lost all the music I had saved on my computer. Because I did upload everything to Mecanto, a function like this would be very welcome! Perhaps a user could only 'restore from backup' max. once a year so it can't be used for music file sharing.

I have a long flight ahead, and i'd like to listen to my music when i'm in the air.. this is not possible currently? there should at least be an option 'make available offline'

Not being able to download the tracks that I have uploaded is a deal-breaker for me. I took advantage of the special offer of a 6 months free trial and love the auto-sync desktop app and especially the range of file formats mecanto supports. But if I am unable to download what I previously uploaded, I can't see my self becoming a paying customer.
I don't want to be able to share my music with anyone else (where I can see there might well be legal issues) but I do want to be able to get my tracks back if I should need to. -
