Giving up on MeCanto. Reluctantly.

Hi Yoav and Viki,

You know, I'd really love this application to work the way I would expect it and that you intend it to work. But unfortunately it doesn't. There are just too many issues at the moment that prevent me from choosing it as my stream-app of choice. On paper it looks great; 'access your entire music collection from anywhere with an internet connection' but that's where the reality stops; at the hopeful but sadly, unrealistic description.

After about a year of trying and failing to use Mecanto to stream my favourite albums, I started using Audio Galaxy recently and while it cannot stream from a server like yours does (it streams from a user's PC) it does actually work seamlessly with both mp3's and FLAC files, even high bitrate FLAC files, it also caches the next track, it doesn't jumble up the track order, it doesn't skip tracks, it doesn't stop playing mid-track. I could go on.

I now find that the MeCanto client app on my media PC actually freezes my PC forcing me to reboot. It's definately MeCanto as I used a process of elimination. It's therefore permanently turned off now, preventing me from uploading any more tracks. I tried re-installing but without success - I get the freezing problem still. This was the last straw for me, on top of all the other short-comings.

At this point I'm deciding to give up on Mecanto. The whole experience is just too frustrating and unreliable sadly. This app is actually one of the reasons why I invested in an IPOD touch - it seemed like the perfect solution to countering the Ipod' s limited storage capability.

I can't fault you guys for trying though; your responses to all my problems have been lightning quick and friendly, but ultimately ineffective in solving the problems as listed above.

I'll keep my subscription going in the hope that you can eventually work out the problems, but until then, I'm afraid I will be using Audio Galaxy from now.

    We're really sorry to hear all this. All I can say is that we'll try to look into the issues you reported and are constantly improving the system.

    I know that your post here is "bad publicity" for us but as we believe in transparency I appreciate you sharing your experience here.

    Since we do have many users that have a much better experience and are enjoying MeCanto daily I'd urge anyone reading this, to give the system a try.

    I'd also recommend you to stay tuned to our feeds on twitter / facebook so you'll be informed of software updated which may resolve the problems you're having.
