Upload files from Network
Can the PC software allow to add a network share as an 'upload' folder please. Otherwise I have to copy from NAS to PC for upload
-
If your network share has a mapped drive letter then it's possible to add folders under that drive (or the entire drive letter) to your account. Just click the "My Music" button and add the network share to your folder list.
Please note that this solution will only partially work, since the PC Client currently won't detect changes to folders on mapped network drives. So the music in those folders will be added to your account but you'll need to restart the PC Client app each time you add more music to those folders in order for the app to detect the new music and sync it to your MeCanto account.
I hope this answers your question. Let me know if something wasn't clear. -

Relatedly, if I set a USB-attached external hard drive (or containing folders) to "My Music", the Mecanto client crashes. I'm using Win XP, please help.
Thanks in advance.-
My folders I have selected are on an external hard drive. Right now it is in the middle of what looks to be a weeks long process of storing files on the server. All good so far! ::knock on wood::

Nacho220, Can you elaborate on your PC system, setup and any additional steps you took. I.e. Win 7/XP, NTFS/fat32 formatted drive, sharing options.
Thanks. -

Windows XP, 1TB external WD hard drive, I just DL'd the client, signed up at the website, signed in to the client, selected the folders and then let it do its thing.
Its stored 2074 of nearly 13500 right now. im afraid to turn off my computer or close it until its done though so as to mess something up. but like i said, it looks like this could take weeks :-(
does that help? -

Thanks Nacho220, that helps a lot. I have a nearly identical setup (500gb WD hard drive), so I'm going to try a fresh DL of the client, then maybe XP if that doesn't work. Let me know if you can think of anything else.

I also have a NAS storage. Each time I restart my computer the scan starts from scratch! What should I do to resolve?

What do you mean by "the scan starts from scratch"?
Each time the PC Client starts it scans your music folders to see if there are any new files. This is typically very fast, even for very large collections. It might be that scanning your NAS storage takes longer than a typical hard drive (because of slow network speed for example). In any case during this initial scan the application is fully functional and doesn't hog up much CPU or memory, so you shouldn't really worry about it.
To make sure nothing weird is happening, I'd like to know what you see while this scanning is in progress. Do you see the number of available tracks counter change or does it stay the same throughout the scan?-
I'm having the same issue. My scan number is staying the same. It says Online 12332 tracks found and are available online. Then...Tracks left to store: 11181. That number has been the same since last night. Then the screen that's moving shows the tracks that are being stored, but it keeps on going back to the same artists over and over again.

I have a mapped drive "Y:". It is mapped to a network drive on my home network \\mydrive\music. It scans my 10000+ music files.
When I reset the computer or close the mecanto pc app, it forgets the files it found and rescans the whole thing....starts from 0 and counts up. Takes for ages.... -

Vereds, it's not supposed to start scanning again from 0. This is something we'll look into.
Thanks for the report. -

Okay, when I opened up my Mecanto app, this is what I encountered this morning. On Monday, I had more than 12,000 songs online with 9,000 left to be uploaded. The weird thing is, my computer is off right now at home and it shows albums uploaded (I'm at work) and I'm able to play some of them. See image below.

Hi,
When MeCanto starts is looks for music in the folders you specified. When using mapped network drives for specifying the music location you'll encounter problems if for some reason it can't access those drives (for example your network drive isn't mapped yet, or your PC isn't connected to the network).
In this case the application doesn't find any music and updates your account that this computer has no music on it.
Whatever was stored in the past to your account will be available for playback.
To verify this is what happened you can send us your PC Clients log file and we'll give them a look. ( How to find and send file see below. )
You can restart the PC Client app after the drive mapping is set up and you'll see the PC Client continue uploading the remainder of your collection.
As mentioned above, the PC Client application has very limited support for network sharing. We'll improve this in the future.

The Mac client also does not work with network drives....what a shame!

I have a mapped folder, using the program Netdrive.
The files from the NAS Synology are stored on the pc while the uploading is going on.
The disc on the computer receives the music and then gets stuffed and the files can ́t be uploaded since the pc disc don+t have the space.
I don ́t want the files to land on the pc, i just want the files to be uploaded directly to my account on meCanto....
Is it possible? -
